What type of comic book collector are you?

Collecting comic books is a hobby that’s been around for decades, and any keen collector would agree that the excitement of getting your hands on a rare or long sought-after comic book is something special. Whether you’re a Spiderman super fan or a savvy investor, there are all sorts of different reasons people collect comic books. So what type of comic book collector are you? Read on to find out.

The Nostalgia Nut

Simply put, you collect comic books because you love to travel back to a simpler time when life was all about kicking back and reading comic books. Going back and revisiting your favourite comic books lets you reconnect with the characters you loved when you were young and carefree. You may be saving and collecting your favourite comics to gift to your own children one day, so you’re able to connect and share something special from your own youth.

The Marvel & DC Movie Maniac

Justice League, The Dark Knight, X-Men, Avengers, Captain America… the list goes on and on. You’ve seen every single Marvel and DC movie from as far back as you can remember and you eagerly wait for the newest flick to come out in the cinemas. While you wait for each new movie to come out, reading comic books is a great way to kerb your insatiable appetite for these superhero stories. Your love of comics spans all the different characters and stories. Unlike the nostalgia nut, you don’t discriminate between new and old comic books as long as their made by one of the two iconic comic book companies.

The Eagle-eyed Investor

Rare comic books are hard to come by, but you love a challenge… and the chance to expand your prized portfolio. Comic book collecting is purely money-related, and as the saying goes - you need to be in it to win it. You don’t think twice about spending 4-digit figures on a single comic to complete a collection and you’re constantly on the lookout for the next sought-after edition. You’re always up to date with the latest Marvel and DC buzz, not because you’re a big fan but to be able to pick which comics will be on every collectors must-have list before anyone else does.

The ‘Complete Set’ Collector

You take your comic collecting seriously, not because you want to make a profit, but for your genuine love of all things comic-related. You have a very specific list of comic books that you require to complete a set that you’ve been collecting for a long time, and you’ll pay big bucks to get your hands on them. Just like a fine wine collector, the complete set collector has invested in creating the perfect environment to store his prized possessions.  You spend hours and hours in your temperature and humidity-controlled, password-protected comic book lair admiring your precious haul whilst trawling comic book websites forbyour next target.

The Art Appreciator

They say never judge a book by it’s cover, but you’ve never been one to go with the status quo. Comic book cover artwork is your weakness, and you don’t care who knows it. Whether you’re an artist yourself or you simply appreciate the amazing talent of comic book cover artwork, your collection is as diverse as it is colourful. You’re not too concerned with the age of the comic, as long as the front cover blows you away.
